Return

                                             sculpture

The Alberta Depot commissioned three local artists Cory Barkman, Christine Pederson and Jeff de Boer to create a stunning tree sculpture entitled "Return". Made using around 1,500 recycled beverage containers, and standing an impressive 11 plus feet tall, the sculpture represents the positive community impact from Alberta's continued commitment to beverage container recycling.

The hand speaks to our shared community action and that choices are in our hands. In the hand are flowers that are native to Alberta and a sample of different beverage container types that can be returned to a depot. The mass of these containers show how fast the physical value can pile up and reminds people the importance of diverting waste from our landfills.

The tree has over 700 handmade leaves, and demonstrates that recycled material can be used to create something new. It is a young tree, which also speaks to Albertans that we can work together to grow the recycling efforts in our province.

The tree is currently at The Eastlink Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta from now until March 31. I encourage everyone to go and check it out, visit a Depot to recycle your beverage containers and celebrate the actions Albertans are already taking!
Visit AlbertaDepot.ca for more information on recycling your beverage containers.
